Vintage Collectibles: 1990 Carolco T2 Folder For Exhibitors

Here's quite a rarity. Other than vintage mags, it's the promo items that were never available for sale that I enjoy acquiring the most. Last such promo item I reviewed not that long ago (T2 Promo Leaflet, see HERE), but this is much cooler than that. It's a special designer folder that I'm sure would be a popular item if released to general public.

Ok so first let's just explain what that is. In preparation for Terminator 2: Judgment Day, the most expensive movie of all time at the time, and for its massive promotional campaign, Carolco sent out promo leaflets and folders to exhibitors to attract potential manufacturers to licensing the movie. Here's one such ad for industry trade magazines

And here's a latter one, boasting about how many companies acquired the license to T2 already

But this folder, which was very limited in numbers, was a beautiful deluxe package, far superior to the ads and even the leaflet. It's almost half inch think, glossy and contains lost of goodies. The cover itself is stunning - the iconic T2 symbol on a steel plate, but here the letters are a cutout, allowing to take a peak at the very first promo photo of Arnold Schwarzenegger in Terminator 2 (other than the iconic half man, half machine image, which wasn't a photograph but came from a teaser trailer image)

Once you open the cover, you can fold the whole set out into 4 sections. Two of these contain more goodies. The first pocket contains a so called Program. It provides details on how the exhibitors can win cash and prizes while licensing T2. There's also a letter from William Sady, Executive Vice President of Theatrical Distribution, dated December 1990. Sandy reminds everyone of Total Recall's success, and says that Terminator 2: Judgment Day presents and even greater opportunity for business

The second pocket contains a fantastically designed Calendar of events. I'm gonna show just some sample pages, but that thing is really a beauty. It shows all the important promotional dates, like when the trailer drops, when will the first t-shirts be released, when will the standees arrive etc. The photos scattered throughout the calendar and on the inside of the folder are of very high quality.

Very nice, captivating design, it must have been done this way to impress the exhibitors and encourage them to push the movie. This must be one of my favorite T2 items, and I'm very grateful to my insane buddy Casey from Tfor2 for helping me get it.
