Vintage Magazine Collection: SFX Magazine 1992

SFX magazine was another branch of the phenomenal Starlog magazine, so you know right there it's a quality mag. You know you're getting great looking, professional magazine but written and published by people who are fans and know their stuff

SFX was published annually, and in its 1992 issue, naturally Terminator 2: Judgment Day was one of the focuses. But, what IS surprising is that the focus is NOT on the CGI, which I think even Starlog back then realized it's been covered so incredibly extensively by every publication from Entertainment Weekly to Post magazine, and of course very understandably so. There IS an article on CGI, in which T2 was among other movies mentioned, such as Lawnmower Man, Batman Returns or Willow, but its a brief overlook on how this new technique had started to appear more often in films

The feature article is on the good, old school miniature photography, shining a spotlight on the excellent Skotak Brothers - the absolute masters of miniature photography who worked with Jim Cameron before he became a director, and worked for him on Aliens, The Abyss, T2 and Titanic few years later. In T2 they were responsible for the title card fire, some Steel Mill scene and most famously, the chilling Nuclear destruction of L.A. in Sarah's Nightmare.

The Cinefex magazine has always done an above perfect job in detailing the making of the film, but this article expands it and even bring in some bits I wasn't aware of, such as, for example, that the bus blown away in one of the shots was full of miniature people covering their eyes.

In addition to the interesting article, there are many rare photos which don't even circulate heavily online today, and there's even a photo of the setup for the scene in which the T-1000 reforms from the small melting shards

Overall, this magazine issue surprised me positively very much with its very multipage article and wealth of great photos
