Vintage Magazine Collection: UK's Vox Magazine Sept 1991

Here's another one from UK, Vox Magazine from September 1991. Vox Magazine is the same type of Entertainment magazine that Entertainment Weekly or US magazine are. It focuses on stars, movies, music. Since Terminator 2: Judgment Day was triumphing in movie theaters all over the country since August there, many magazines were, naturally, giving their cover features to this instant classic and it's biggest movie star of the time.

The magazine features an interview with Arnold Schwarzenegger, which is done in an article style as oppose to the question-answer type of a deal. It covers the same topics covered by medias from both sides of the globe, which is T2's biggest ever budget, the violence of the film, possible political career. The article throws in some quotes from Cameron about the appeal of the Terminator character and analyses Schwarzenegger's appeal.

"I don't want my kids to idolise someone who goes around killing people" is the featured quote of the article, and the ideology mirroring Jim Cameron's.

If you've read other articles and magazines interviews with Arnold from Celebrity and Entertainment magazines from the time of T2's release, the article/interview doesn't really bring anything completely new but still feels fresh and reads well. It does have a breakdown of the budget, which today we know isn't correct (Arnold's and Cameron's salaries were twice as much), and the magazine is the first one to give young John Connor a wrong age of 12, although it does correctly state that Arnold's model is a T-800 and Robert Patrick's is the T-1000

The interview isn't the end of spotlight on T2 in this issue, as we're also shown the magazine's review of the film, which, while brief, praises the spectacle and visuals, calling the entertainment experience stunning, but dismisses T2 as thrills and no story. It seems to me like at the time over there it was hard to admit the big spectacles can just as much be meaningful character stories, which T2 is first and foremost. I stated in another review how it seemed that, at the time, UK's press reviews weren't as glowing as those in US or many other European countries. Then again, to be fair, those are publications' reviews, not really reflecting the audience's views, and to this day T2 has a very strong fanbase in UK

Overall, a good interview/article, and a cool cover. This magazine is nearly impossible to get in US
