Vintage Magazine Collection: Starburst Monster Special #19 1994

Another entry from Starburst. This time let's take a look at Starburst Monster Special #19, from 1994. Yes, 1994. T2 Terminator 2: Judgment Day not only made a giant impact upon its release, and not only is it still a very highly praised movie classic decades later, but it made a lasting impact instantly throughout the decade of its birth. There was no year where the interest would really drop, and it would even pick up more in the following year or two

Starlog did a perfect feature on Robert Patrick's portrayal of the T-1000 at the time of the film's release, and Starburst did their focus as well few years later. While the cover shows the T-800 endoskeleton, it's the T-1000 thats mostly focus in this issue.

The cover promises a feature on "Robert Patrick's adventures as an android villain against Arnold Schwarzenegger", but the article and interview are equally about his then-new film, Double Dragon, and other films post T2, of which funnily enough, two asked him to step back into his role of the T-1000 (Wayne's World and Last Action Hero) which the article mentions. Robert spoke to Starburst to promote the Double Dragon, but they of course also got him to recall his then-still-recent role of the T-1000, because how can you not?

It's an interesting article anyway you slice it even thought most of us T2 diehards know it all, but Robert's always very candid in his interviews, so there's always something one might have not heard before. For example, he talks about the pressure he put on himself to do well, knowing full well even then that the film will be huge and if he does well, this role will break him into the big league. Of course he did his job so good that he became an icon pretty much instantly, doing cameos of his character nearly right after the film, appearing in Animaniacs as the T-1000 even, and of course nowadays everyone knows the image of the T-1000

Robert also talks about his training, about Arnold's much more laid back attitude during the filming and how he approached the role.
