Vintage Collectibles: T2 Special Edition Laserdisc 1993

T2 Special Edition Laserdisc Box Set I see often cited on collectors group as one of, or even the best Laserdisc release out there. It's also one of the most known T2 collectibles, and one which quite a few fans have in their collection, especially of they're diehard fans and at least mild collectors

The box set was released by Pioneer, Carolco and Live Entertainment with Lightstorm Entertainment (yes, James Cameron's production company) and was a unusually expensive item at the time. According to LA Times article from December 3, 1993, it cost $120 back then! So it was truly a luxurious item yet it mist have been a great seller because there's tons of it in circulation, and thanks to that, they don't really go for any crazy money. Usually you can find them in the $40-50 area.

It does look awesome. Outside it's a leather slipcase with the T2 logo and that looks cool as it is,

but the inside packaging is what takes the cake. On one side it's a very high resolution closeup shot of the T-800 from the promotional photo session (which you can find HERE) lit in the signature cold blue,

while the other side has a phenomenal shot of the endoskeleton in flames from T2's opening titles. The photo is a patchwork of two photos: Since there was no high quality shot of the entire skull in the film, the top of the skull was added from a promotional photograph and you can see the quality transition, which doesn't take away from this mindblowing image at all. It looks fantastic

The discs are in black envelopes with Cyberdyne logos which looks great, and there's a foldout booklet with chapter descriptions and letter to the fans from Jim Cameron

Pics really don't do this amazing set justice, and that's not just a figure of speech. Large artwork is always much more visceral, has more punch. It's like looking at the LP vinyl cover - the large artwork always has that "whoa" effect when you first see it, something smaller formats like CDs or Blurays don't have
