As I mentioned in different reviews, aside from the ones from UK, I rarely collect European magazines unless they have something really special, and 'Viva!' magazine from March 1998 certainly has it. While the article itself is good, but not an unusual in any way feature on Jim Cameron who was on the top of the world triumphing with massive 'Titanic', it's the photographs included in it that made me really look after it. One in particular.
I was about 12 when this magazine came out, and it was a lot like US Weekly and Entertainment Weekly, and was one of the higher prices magazines. Since Titanic had just conquered the world, one of the feature articles in the March '98 issue was on James Cameron, and it went over his early life, career and personal life (he was married to Linda Hamilton at the time). The great thing about this article is that it had two rare photos in it. One, depicting Cameron discussing a scene with Arnold Schwarzenegger during the shoot of canal chase in Terminator 2: Judgment Day, still isn't very common today but possible to find online.
The other one however, blew my mind at the time and still does today. In a rare photosession from 1991, Cameron poses with Terminator endoskeletons. One would think such a cool session in such cool setup would be all over the place but since T2 came out I've only seen three photos from this session. One was published in Us Magazine in an August 1991 issue (see HERE), which you can see below,
The other one was in the Viva! magazine, with Jim sitting, and the third was shown by Stan Winston School of Characters
I've been trying to find this photo for years, posting on different Terminator groups if anyone has it but to no success. After some time I started to wonder whether I imagined this second photo and hat maybe it was just the same one as in the US magazine, but when I finally found the mag in a European eBay and asked my friends for help, I finally got it and realized I didn't misremember the pic and it actually was a very rare pic with Cameron surrounded by Terminators. It's amazing, and it's such a pity so little has been published from this photo session (shot by Theo Westenberger)
This is how the article looks like, for the curious
