There have been some dual packages including both James Cameron films in various countries. Not many, but some, here, there. There was one in Italy, one in Germany. But they were just two films slapped into a single cover. One such release was also made in US - a cheap packaging of both films which nowadays goes for peanuts, one cardboard slipcase with two VHS tapes. But, US did have one big release of both films titled The Terminator Collection, which included a mini book with a writeup from Jim Cameron himself, and a packaging which had a small hologram on the front (you can see it HERE). I loved the mini book on that one but the plain, mostly black cover with a wrong letter A in the title didn't do much for me.
UK also had one big release of both films, and it's the US version that I always found appealing and really cool looking. Since it always took forever for stuff from Europe to arrive in the States, and since this release is easy to dent, I often put off ordering one for myself but finally did it when I found a US seller with one of those.
The so called T2 Box Set was released and designed in 1992 by a large European company PolyGram. I'm saying 'so called' because it's not really just a T2 box set but a box set of Terminator films, although for obvious reasons T2 is quite a bit more prominent on the packaging to say the least.
This box set is pretty much what steelbooks are today, and such releases were very rare back in the days. It's not in a cardboard, it's in a tin box with engraved lettering and in person it looks really, really cool, especially with its size. I don't know why I always imagine those as much smaller, since it houses 2 VHS tapes, but this one's really large and very impressive in person with its engraved giant T2 logo on the cover. It's about 10x13 inches
As far as the inside content goes, naturally it has two tapes with two films, The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day. The T2 tape also contains The Making Of. Also included is a cool looking large booklet. The front packaging says it included a special effects booklet, but special effects team is just a part of it. The booklet contains brief info on T2, its cast and crew. It does contain some interesting trivia, like that Jim Cameron gave Eddie Furlong a video camera as a gift, or that Linda slept for 4 hours a night throughout the shoot and it was hard for her to go back to full night sleep after it ended, or that it took over 1000 people to make the film.
Included also is a small booklet for all the T2 video games that were out at the time, two for GameBoy, Nintendo, SuperNintendo and a contest to win the T2 hand held games.
This set always looked neat to me, but in person it's that much more impressive. A really cool collectible and for me probably the best vintage release of the films.
