Vintage Collectibles: Terminator 2 1992 Calendar

Let's now go back on track and back to the canon Terminator Trilogy material. I was hunting for this item for quite some time. About 5 years to be exact. Throughout these years, I've been checking eBay regularly, meaning at least once a week for this and one other item, and it has only appeared once in all these years, and it was about 4 years ago in a condition called "acceptable, with major damage" priced at over $100 plus shipping. I was sure that it's bound to appear again but it didn't until about a month ago or so. I guess people really didn't hold on to their calendars, even the ones which were themed after their favorite film. Surprisingly, about a month ago suddenly three of them appeared and all in great condition and priced around $40. That was an instant sale for me.

It's fairly large, measuring 16.5 inches in height, so the images inside, which cover the entire pages, are in great quality and look quite impressive when viewed that size. As far as the choice of the images, by now all of them are well known press promo photos, but I haven't seen them in that size. Couple of interesting things of note: The T-1000 for some reason is not featured here at all, there are no images of him anywhere. Two images are flipped, one with the T-800 on the bike with a shotgun, and one with the T-800, Sarah and Dyson at the Cyberdyne desk.

The most interesting thing about them, is that what's inside differs from what the back shows with one photo, and the choice for its switch should be quite obvious

The third photo shown in the back, which would have been March of course, depicting the T-800 and John escaping the fireball, is actually not featured inside, and instead is replaced by a photo from the deleted scene (or Special Edition if you prefer) with Sarah and Reese.

The switch isn't surprising at all all things considered, while the first choice of including this one sure is! This particular fiery shot of John and the T-800 actually features two stunt doubles, whose faces you can clearly see even in the smaller version of the pic, imagine the large size it would have been printed in inside. It's Peter Kent with Stan Winston appliances to make him appear more similar to Arnold, and Eddie Furlong's stunt double.

I said it many times, but I love the promo image of the half Arnold, half endoskeleton from the teaser, and I collect mostly the vintage items with this image on the packaging. It looks great in this large format and looks absolutely awesome displayed with other collectibles with this image. It gives it all a unity and a theme.

The calendar was published by a company called Culture Shock, and was officially licensed to them by Carolco in 1991. The great thing they did is that they kept the calendar part to the absolute minimum, so it's basically a large poster book (although the vertical images don't fill the entire page ).
