Vintage Magazine Collection: US Magazine #157, June 1991

June 1991. There it is, the media machine is beginning to roll. A month before the premiere of Terminator 2: Judgment Day, multiple magazines on both sides of the globe are beginning to report on the film. This issue of US Magazine. #157 from June 1991 brings us the first reports from the set. One of the producers, BJ Rack is interviewed, along with Jim Cameron and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The article reports from 3 sets: The Canal chase (A bit of a chase of the street and the tow truck's famous dive into the canal), The Future War set and the sliding, overturned tanker truck.

At this point it is still not revealed that the T-800 is a protagonist this time around, and the article, like the audiences, thinks Arnold is one of the two Terminators that are after John. Yes, at this point US Magazine has revealed the T-1000, and Arnold briefly describes him as being made out of liquid metal and being a newer, more advanced model than he is. Arnold is though as chasing John along with the T-1000, and is referred to multiple times as the evil cyborg who, along with this second Terminator, has been sent to eliminate a "14 year old" John.

On the Future War set, Cameron is described as rearranging skulls for a long time until he gets what he wants.

This article of course picks up the Hollywood trend and is all over the rumored budget of $75-$110 Million, which, either way, made T2 the most expensive movie ever made. It is the first magazine to mention Arnold getting a private jet in addition to his $10 million salary.
